September 29, 2009

I have to say we had a great weekend. It was nice to have some time away from the kids (although I love them).  We hit 4 wineries and had a great dinner at a restaurant named Novo in San Luis Obispo.  I will post back about the wineries and dinner.

September 25, 2009

We are heading up to San Luis this weekend. I am excited. I was hoping to post before we went about the wineries we were going to go to but I can't decide.  We have not done much wine tasting in that area.  I did find a great site about a few hidden ones off the main track.  So maybe we will do that. I will report back though of course!

2006 Beringer Kinights Valley Cabernet

Need I say any more then that?   Hmmmm a very good wine!  Beringer - who would have thought? They are everywhere and mainstream.  But their reserves and their Knights Valley wines are amazing.  This 2006 does not disappoint.  The wine smells of plum and dried fruit - it is sort of like a port.  The taste however is very different.  It is dark chocolate and a bit dry with some dry sweetness of fruit.  This wine is excellent and I am going to have to get some more.  8 out of 5 and yes I did say 8.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

2006 Cupcake Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

I know what you are thinking, or at least I know what I was thinking - Cupcake Vineyard?  Quite an interesting name.  This vineyard hails from the central coast of California.  This cabernet is very different.  The smell to me is great but has a hint of Pinot Noir.  I think it is a bit of that spice I am smelling.  The taste is not as big as I had hoped for.  One is like a bigger Cab and two is that the smell lends itself to have a bolder flavor then it does.  There is some dried fruit - hint of cranberries almost and then finishes very mellow.  For the price it is a good drinking wine, and for those that like the bold smell without the bold taste you might find a hidden gem, er....Cupcake. 3 out of 5 for me.

2006 Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon

Liberty School is a winery based out of Paso Robels California.  We first came across it at a great little pub near our house.  They have great food and make their own beer.  Liberty School Cabernet is a great wine.  the 2006 proves to just as amazing.  The smell is of oak and the taste is of fruit and cherries.  With a little time in the glass it opens up even nicer.  For less then $15 a bottle you can't go wrong.  It is a 5 out of 5.

St. Francis Winery

I have to say that St. Francis is one of favorite wineries.  If you are looking for great wine and a great price this winery has it.  This was one of the first wineries that we joined their wine club.  I received an email about their crush and thought I would pass it along.
